Maryland school holidays

Maryland's largest systems are county-wide, which makes the calendar unusually simple to read: three districts on this page cover the entire Washington DC suburban belt and much of the Baltimore metro. Montgomery County Public Schools and Prince George's County Public Schools both start on August 25, 2026, and Baltimore County Public Schools on August 31.

The finishing dates all carry an asterisk. Baltimore County is scheduled to close on June 14, 2027 with up to three make-up days held on June 15 to 17. Prince George's is scheduled for June 15 with make-up days on April 19 and June 16 and 17. Montgomery County is scheduled for June 16 but could finish as early as June 11 if no inclement-weather days are used. In Maryland, the end of the year moves in both directions.

Thanksgiving is a two or three day close. Montgomery County and Baltimore County take November 26 and 27, 2026, and Prince George's adds the Wednesday for November 25 to 27. Montgomery County also gives students November 2 and 3 off, which is the only autumn break of any length in the state.

Winter break differs by three days at the start. Prince George's runs December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027. Montgomery County and Baltimore County run December 24 to January 3, so Prince George's families get an earlier start and everyone else gets a later return.

Baltimore County adds a two-day closure on January 18 and 19, 2027 for Martin Luther King Day and a professional development day, the only January break in the state.

Spring break is the big one and it moves with Easter. Baltimore County takes March 22 to 29, 2027. Montgomery County takes March 26 to April 4, ten days and the longest spring break of any district on this page. Prince George's takes March 26 to April 2.

The overlap week is March 29 to April 2, 2027, when all three districts are off simultaneously. Ocean City, Annapolis and the Smithsonian museums across the DC line all feel that week, and it coincides with the tail of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. If there is one week to book early in Maryland, that is it.

Montgomery County's extra days on either end are worth exploiting. Its break starts on a Friday and runs through the Monday after Easter, so a family with children only in MCPS has a genuine ten-day window when neighboring counties have seven.

Because make-up days sit at the end of the year rather than inside the breaks, a snowy winter in Maryland delays the start of summer rather than shortening spring break. Book June travel late.
